rEvolutionaries Project
For this project we focused on identity and privilege. At the beginning we started to learn about our identities and what privileges we have and don't have. For this specific portion of the project chose different social issues that we were interested in. We chose an article that was related to our topic and created a summary with quotes that we found interesting. For the math portion of this project we did an experiment based off your topic. We had to create survey questions and hand them out to people to collect data. After our data had been collected we created 2-way frequency tables and pie charts. After finding some information on our own we interviewed someone who was tied to our topic. Our final piece was to create a PSA to inform others about the topic we chose and how it affects different people.

Personal Narrative Essay
After sitting back and truly thinking about my life I realized that as a young white female I believe I have more privilege than others. Although I have not been racially profiled I have been age profiled. If I walk into a store alone without my parents the employees will follow me around the store watching my every move. Yes, I’m not the most privileged but I don’t have to face some of the daily struggles others do. I was born on July 24, 2000 in San Diego, California. I was born a month early and my parents say it’s because I wanted to join my cousin who was born eleven days before me. I am the oldest of two children with my sister being two years younger than me. My parents were also born here in the United States which allows us to blend in more. I feel as though I am privileged but there are some areas where I could be better off.

Interview
From Iguala to San Diego
For my interview I decided to interview a 15 year old Latina who attends High Tech High. She was born in Iguala, Guerrero on September 22, 2000 but came to the U.S with her parents when she was either 3 or 4. Her and her parents are both undocumented but her little sister was born in America. I decided to interview her because I know she has an interesting view on her life. She's not bitter about things that have happened to her or her family but she does have opinions on it and I wanted to be the one to let her share them with others.

Body Image
Essential Question-
Looking at both genders, when do people start to feel pressure on their body image/ physical appearance? What is the pressure that they feel?
Our topic is body image. We find this important because many people in our society are being affected by the “perfect body”. We find this to be apart of privilege because we feel as though people who are skinnier get more attention in society. We want to see how society’s ways are affecting different age groups, for this project we are going to be surveying grades 5-12th. We will be going to Explorer, High Tech Middle and High Tech High. We will be using both quantitative and qualitative study methods.

Experiment Reflecton
Experiment Reflection
During this project we learned about probability and privilege and how it affects us. Majority of the time we don’t connect those two topics together but they’re paired together more than you would think. Privilege is what gives you the ability to do things. While studying these topics we became more aware of how these topics affect our lives. They show up in parts of our lives we never even considered. We thought about how our privileges affect us positively and negatively and how we can use them to affect others.

Perfect Body Image
For my context research, I read “Perfect Body Image” on the mirror - mirror website. This article discusses the ideal body image for men and women that the media displays. The first part of the article talks about what role media plays on our self image, we see celebrities in magazines, on television, movies, etc. and most things are about how to look like them. It then goes into the ideal body for women, it explains how the ideal body is based off of a supermodel who is 5’10” and 120 pounds. However they state that the average American woman is 5’4” weighing 169 pounds. They also state that “ It doesn’t matter too much if she’s smart, as long as she is physically attractive.” The next part of the article discusses what the ideal body is for men, they also base it off of a supermodel that is 6’1” and weighs 160 pounds. Like the section for women it states what the average American male is, according to them the males are on average 5’9” and 190 pounds. The very last section explains the dangers of striving for the “perfect” body. The model that is 120 pounds has a body mass index of 17.2 which is under the healthy mass index of 18.5. Trying to get the “perfect” body could put you at risk of getting different disorders including anorexia and bulimia.
