Selective Breeding for Dark Preference in Fruit Flies Spring 2017
For this project we used Drosophila Melanogaster, otherwise known as fruit flies. Drosophila Melanogaster are model organisms in the science world because of their short life spans, quick reproduction rates and their small size. We wanted to test different behaviors in the fruit flies and see if we could selectively breed up a trait we chose. We started off by learning about the fruit flies and what their normal traits are. We were put into groups and then were given the task of choosing a behavior to test. We used artificial selection to breed up the trait. Artificial selection is when you produce organisms with a desired trait. We decided to artificially select and breed up the fruit flies with the intent of creating one group of flies that prefer light and another group that prefers dark.

Human Behavior Book Spring 2017
This projects purpose was to discover human behavior under the guiding question of "Why do we do what we do?" Each student chose a human behavior in order to study the genetic, evolutionary and societal causes of that specific behavior. After doing some initial research we were tasked with creating an essay about the social science behind our behaviors. We then created an image that represented our chosen behaviors like, paranoia, crying, social anxiety, and dreaming. The last step in our process was to create a chapter for a book explaining all of the research we had done. Our chapters included the genetics, evolution, and societal causes of our behavior as well as what the future would be like for that behavior.

INNERnet Connections Spring 2016
This projects focus was to try and help people de-stress. We surveyed kids in our school to see what stresses them out the most and what they need in order to relieve that stress. The most common things people needed that the school didn't have were private spaces, quiet spaces and most of all places they could just sit back and relax in. Our task for this project was to create a space that would help solve one of those issues. We were put into groups based off of who was interested in a certain issue. Once we were put into groups we started planning for Experience Week. |
Business Project Spring 2016
For this project we designed a product we felt would serve the needs of someone. We went through various drafts and peer critiques then picked our final idea. After we had our idea picked out we researched how much our production costs would be. We then surveyed a group of about forty five people asking how much they would pay for our product, we took that data and put it into a linear regression then a quadratic regression. We took those numbers and calculated our projected monthly sales, revenue, costs and profit. |
rEvolutionaries Project Winter 2015
For this project we chose a social issue to study further. We read an article that was related to our topic then wrote a summary that included interesting quotes we found. We created surveys asking questions that would give us data to answer our essential question about our topic. After we collected the data we put them into 2-way frequency graphs and pie charts. We interviewed someone who was involved in our issue and asked them different questions about our subject. Our last piece was to film a PSA to show people what our issues were about. |
Latin American Privilege Winter 2015
For this project we picked two articles about different social issues. One article was about Latin America and the other was about California or the U.S. We took both of the articles and compared them to each other, we sorted out the similarities and the differences of how the issue affects the different places. We created a summary of each article summing up the main points and the most interesting parts. Lastly, we took all of those pieces and put them into one essay like paper.

Price Of Life Fall 2015
For this project we created a path that we would take after high school. We then chose the path that we liked the most and based the rest of our project on it. We budgeted out our monthly expenses, monthly income, monthly surplus/debt and yearly surplus/debt. We created a portfolio that included a cover page, write-up, spreadsheet, packet we used to write our information, rubrics and a final reflection.

Ollie(ing) To Altruism Spring 2015
For this project we did research on generosity and how it affects ourselves and others. We then decided to explore it more within ourselves by creating philosophies and designing our own projects that tied in with our philosophies. We created blogs which is where we posted weekly updates about our projects. We were partnered based on our philosophies and then we chose a mentor that would fit our needs best. To document our project we created a photo journalistic essay with pictures we took during the month of the project.

Politics, Poetry and Punchlines Fall 2014
For this project we had to write multiple poetry pieces, create a comedy skit and create a political satire cartoon. We got put into groups of five, those were our comedy skit groups. We first started with poetry, we had to create a slam poem, a 1 minute poem and a poetry analysis paper. We then started to form our skits which we would later perform in front of our team. Our next step was to work on our political stances that we chose from three topics, immigration, drones and gay marriage rights. We wrote an essay and created a cartoon that showed our opinion on the issue.
