Planning Our Rocket
Handy and I started our process by watching the tutorial our teacher posted on his DP. We watched the video twice, once watching the whole thing and the second time we kept pausing it to make sure we were doing it right. We decided to go with the more boxy design because we felt it would be easier for us to accomplish for our very first rocket.
Making Our Balsa Wood Rocket
We took turns cutting the pieces when we realized we were both terrible at cutting. Our rocket pieces were uneven but we still needed to sand it down so we weren't too worried. When we were gluing the pieces together we noticed a few places we needed to sand really well. After the what seemed like hours of sanding but in reality was only like five minutes our rocket was looking pretty good. We had the body section done and we just needed to create the fins to complete the outside of the body. We sketched out our fins then cut them out, we decided on triangles that we would cut down to make them more squarish to better accomoadate our oddly shaped rocket. We glued the fins onto our rocket and then realized we had accidentally glued one of our fins on the wrong side so we had to fix it. Another mistake we made was putting our fins on before we put in the motor stopper. It was really tricky trying to get the piece of wood into our rocket so our teacher ended up having to help us.
